The Shipbuilders of Bayou La Batre and Coden

The shipbuilders of Bayou La Batre and Coden are proud to support and be a part of the communities of Bayou La Batre and Coden, and are happy to sponsor the 2014 Blessing of the Fleet!

Bayou La Batre has a history of quality shipbuilding and repair for the U.S. and foreign governments, and domestic and overseas customers.  We construct and repair commercial fishing vessels,  crewboats, tow boats, barges, passenger vessels and auto ferries, pleasure craft, jack up rigs, and other specialty vessels, including the “Black Pearl”, which was built in Bayou La Batre for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies.

According to Workboat Magazine’s Construction Survey (March 2013, p 44), the sponsor shipyards have built in 2012 and 2013 over 36 vessels for U.S. and foreign governments, and domestic and overseas customers.  It is estimated that Bayou La Batre and Coden shipbuilding is responsible for more than 1,000 jobs, and generates revenue for the local economy in excess of $75,000,000 annually.
